About this Story

Gulf Mobile & Ohio Railroad car #50 (one of 2,000 cars) was built in 1927 as a private business car for railroad presidents and industry titans. This elegant way of travel was used by celebrities such as Clark Gable and Politicians such as Huey Long (40th Governor of Louisiana) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (32nd President of the United States) used the rail car on their campaign trails.

Purchased in 1996 by John Paul DeJoria, founder of the Patrón Spirits Company, the rail car went through an extensive restoration before it began its new life as The Patrón Tequila Express.

With three staterooms, a master suite, dining room, kitchen and observation room complete with an Asian temple, Buddhas and exotic wood carvings from North India. This room was the inspiration for the VIP, members only, Foundation Rooms found inside many House of Blues.
